Welcome to the Scoutmaster's Minute for Troop 626.
Troop 626 will celebrate its 40th year of cheerful service to the community. We have been blessed with having Windwood Presbyterian Church as our Charter Partner for the entire 40 year period of our Troop existence. Along with a great Charter Partner, we would not have remained in existence for these numbers of years without the great support of all of the parent volunteers, especially those who have come before me as the Scoutmaster. Without the dedication and sacrifice of all of the volunteers, we certainly would not have produced the fine young men that have moved into our community in many different endeavors.
Each of these scoutmasters provided guidance and direction to a very large group of young Scouts and helped to mold them into fine young men of that serve our communities today.
So, why I have done this job twice? Let me tell you a little about myself. ..
For the past 14 years, I have been a leader here in the Sam Houston Area Council. I have held positions of Tiger Leader, Den Leader, WEBELOS leader as well as Assistant Scout Master and now for the second time, Scout Master. As a youth, I earned my Eagle Scout along with a Bronze Palm, and attended a national Jamboree in 1969. I am also a proud member of the OWL patrol from my Wood Badge program.
So, why do I tell you all of these minute details? It’s simple. I believe in the Boy Scouts of America and the values that this program instills in our youth. To say that scouting did not have a profound impact on my life would simply not be the truth. Even today, I look at my obtaining of the Eagle Rank as one of the most important aspects of my life. By being a leader in Scouting today, I am able to provide just a little pay back for all of those adults who invested in my future as well as hundreds of others volunteers who have invested the time and energy in the youth of our great nation. (Thanks Mr. Glasco (SM T51) and Uncle Jeff (ASM T51)!!
Scouting, and its ideals, is like a compass that helps point us in the right direction. I believe that scouting is a compass in making the decisions in our lives. Following the three guides of Scouting: Duty to God, Duty to Country and Duty to Others - if we follow these principals in Scouting when we have decisions to make, we will always make the right one.
